Fee Information

Dr David Kitchen and his team prioritise transparency, especially when it comes to the cost of your care. We believe in providing clear, upfront information regarding consultation fees and surgical costs so you can make informed decisions about your treatment.

Specialist Consultation Fees

A referral Payment is required at the time of your appointment at sportsmed Stepney or Henley Beach. We accept payment via EFTPOS and major credit cards.

Initial Consultation

A comprehensive assessment including a clinical examination and a detailed review of your imaging.

Follow-up Appointments

Focused consultations to monitor your progress, review results, or discuss your ongoing recovery.

Medicare Rebates

If you have a valid GP referral, you are entitled to a Medicare rebate for a portion of the consultation fee. Our team can usually process this claim electronically on the day, with the rebate paid directly into your nominated bank account.

Surgical Fees & "The Gap"

If surgery is recommended, our team provides a detailed written quote (Informed Financial Consent). This document outlines the expected costs and any out-of-pocket expenses, commonly known as "the gap."

The Surgical Gap
This is the difference between the fee for the procedure and the combined contribution from Medicare and your private health fund. The amount of the gap depends on the complexity of the surgery and your specific level of health insurance cover.

Other Costs
Depending on the procedure, there may be separate accounts from other providers. These typically include the Anaesthetist, the hospital (for your bed and theatre fees), and any required pathology or additional imaging.

We encourage you to contact your health fund once you receive your quote to confirm your level of cover and any excess associated with your policy.

WorkCover & Third-Party Claims

Dr David Kitchen provides care for patients with active WorkCover, motor vehicle accident (MVA), or other third-party claims.

  • Approval: Prior to your appointment, we require written approval from your insurer.
  • Details: Please provide your claim number, date of injury, and the contact details of your case manager when booking your consultation.

Public Hospital Care

Dr David Kitchen is committed to supporting the South Australian public health system. He consults and operates within the Northen Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) at Lyell McEwin Hospital and Modbury Hospital. For patients seeking care through the public system, there are no out-of-pocket costs, though waiting times are managed by the hospital’s triage system.
